The world which was Eador was once whole, with a formerly powerful and advanced civilization once ruling it. Most importantly, it would appear that support for the game would all but dry up, what with its “re-mastered” version, Eador: Master of the Broken World, seemingly taking up most of the developer’s time these days.Įador: Genesis’s story is not a new one, but it is a rare one indeed. Its campaign mode is also an exercise in repetition. Up until this time of writing, the game still lacks any multiplayer mode, despite the promise of one. However, it has issues fulfilling its own promises. As a result, Eador: Genesis is an incredibly sophisticated turn-based strategy game, and even more surprisingly, one which does not rely on random number generators too much. Snowbird apparently has many ideas for its game, which it implemented mostly well. The sheer amount of entertainment that this game has provided in the past 2 months is enormous, and I'm not finished yet.
There are two resources: gold, which is spent on buying units/upkeep and crystals, which generally deal with magic. The economic system of the game is also really deep, yet simple. These battles take place on a standard hex tiles with up to 15 units on each side. The heroes themselves have a choice of action each turn, one of which is adventure pretty much defeat guardians or some place to get some money and treasure. 3 health parameters, 3 defense types, 3 attack types. While primarily a turn based strategy, the game offers a compelling RPG system, which is easy to understand. The game offers a lot of bang for a buck, even on average difficulty, battle for a map may last for 8 hours, longer if you decide to explore the map for special treasures. The campaign consists of invading and capturing more land, while dealing with other immortals on the astral plane. Once you defeat all opponents on the map, the map joins your astral kingdom, providing you with castle upgrades and various bonuses. Heroes fight in battles alongside units, conquering provinces and obtaining treasure. You have up to 4 main heroes, each one has stats/equipment and they lead an army. Essentially it is a turn based strategy with a good amount of RPG components. Eador shares some similarities with Heroes of Might and Magic series, or most recently the King's Bounty series. Eador: Genesis made it to the list of my favorite games, allow me to explain why. Despite 2D graphics, this game offers superb and deep strategy/PRG gameplay. I must say this was the most pleasant surprise I had buying a videogame since I discovered Space Rangers 2 a few years ago. Explore the land and rule provinces as you see fit, defend them, and keep the populace in line or they may rebel.
Take the role of a mighty Master and shape the destiny of Eador, on land and within the astral plane itself. The power over the shards is bitterly contested by Masters, the immortal beings mortals believe to be gods. Each of the shards is a little world unto itself, with geography and citizens of its own.
